Ok so I will be ordering a tarp and a bivy from Ron in the near future and I can't decide between the LiteSoul bivy and the Superlight bivy. So far I'm leaning more towards the LiteSoul but a lot of people seem to prefer side zip bivys. Is the only disadvantage of the LiteSoul the fact that it's harder to get in and out of? Because I think I'm willing to deal with that for the weight savings. Another option is to get a custom Superlight bivy where the bottom is cuben instead of silnylon. Ron said this would save me about an ounce so it would be closer to the weight of the LiteSoul bivy with that modification. Let me know what you guys think. Which bivy do you prefer?

SideZip is worth the weight. If it's raining and you're crouched under a small tarp, you'll be glad you can easily slip in from the side. If you are overly concerned about the added ounce(s?) then just get the bottom in cuben.

Sid, I have the superlight and I'm really happy with it. I didn't even think about going cuben on the bottom, but if it saves an once then I'd say spend the money to do it. I really like the side zip. It is easy to get into it is easy to vent.

I suppose I can deal with one more ounce and get the SuperLight for the side zip. I will be using this bivy for many different elevations so I'm going to need the side zip for venting.

I've got a sidezip Soul with a cuben bottom.
– I really like the total waterproofness of the cuben bottom, and it's wearing well.
– I'm glad I got the side zip.
– I really like having the corner tie outs so I can stake/tie it out.

Things I don't use:
– wire hoop (I always just tie it up to my shelter)
– the interior+exterior pad holding strap loops
