I will be building a Ray-way inspired tarp and was wondering about the type of rope I should use. Initially, I was thinking:

– 2 ridge guys: 1/8" Nylon or Braided Polyester (Dacron)
– 4 corner guys: 1/16" Nylon or Braided Polyester (Dacron)
– side, beak, lifter guys: some type of flat line?

According to the links below, Nylon stretches much more then Polyester. And Polyester is more UV resistant.

Spectra sounds amazing but is expensive compared to Nylon and Polyester.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,

Nick

250lb braided dacron kite line works quite well … but I've never found it in cmall quantities … now have about 3 lifetimes supply.

Thanks a ton for the helpful information.

For the side, beak, and lifter guy lines, Ray refers to using a "specialized flat line carefully chosen for its subtle stiffness, greatly reducing tangles."

Any idea on the type of line he is referring to?

Thanks,

Nick
