Hope you all had a great weekend! I just bought a Six Moon Serenity Net Tent with the idea of pairing it with a Duomid. I probably will get a few suggestions that this is overkill for the JMT but wanted to hear some thoughts.

I could go with a Contrail instead but would lose some versatility versus the Duomid for other hikes. The Patrol shelter is another option but I would have to get another bug shelter to pair with it as I don't have a bivy. I already have a Cloudburst for trips with the GF but could see us using the Duomid as well. I will be using a ULA Ohm so packed size comes into play with the bear canister in tow. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like a good combo Ryan. If you are not starting your trip until August, you could probably do without the bug tent by then.

So, if I was doing the JMT starting Aug 28th, I shouldn't have to worry about mosquitos? Are there other buzzies I should worry about?

Ryan:
Just wondering if the ULA Ohm would be too small to fit a bear canister inside, or do you plan to strap it on the outside? I'm buying the Catalyst because of the canister, otherwise, I would be taking my Conduit.

My experience has been that mosquitoes are greatly reduced by early to mid August in the Sierra. They are out there in certain places (bug prone spots) so I usually opt for a shelter with netting even if mosquitoes are in small quantities in late summer. Being a bug-wimp, the added protection is worth it.

I have an Ohm and a Bearikade weekender. It fits just fine vertically inside.

I'm surprised you have problems with a canister in the conduit. I've used an amp for a 4 day in yosetime with the above weekender. It was a little uncomfortable at the beginning but fit ok with the collar fully extended.

Thanks for the comments guys. Maybe the thread should have been "Ohm for JMT". I'm still waiting on the OHM. I have low volume epuipment such as neoair, montbell Ul down inner, OR Zealot, Marmot Hydrogen a couple cookpots to choose from, I'll let you know how it all fits.

I Would rather pay the weight penalty over the Gatewood for the versatility of the Duomid for future use. I'll be going solo on the JMT but will use the Duomid with a partner much more than I would a Gatewood solo. Future winter use is another reason

I'm definitely going with the Ohm and I know a canister will fit so I will have to adjust the other gear. May have to leave the bug net at home, use a smaller pot, etc. Not sure about the packed size of the Duomid.

Would love to hear more from people who have done the JMT.

I'm using a BV500 on the JMT this summer, due to using MTR as my last resupply and carrying 7-8 days of food. It will fit into my Conduit vertically along with the rest of my gear, but I guess I'd rather have the canister horizontal instead of vertical.
