I'm trying to decide which canister stove to use with my MSR titan kettle. I have been using a myog alcohol stove and I'm kind of sick of guessing on the alcohol, using a windscreen all the time and the other pains that come with alcohol stoves even though its only one ounce.

Anyway I've been looking at the burton optimus crux stove, because I believe that it and a canister will fit in my msr titan kettle.

I also found a good deal on a snow peak gigapower titanium stove. I don't think it would fit in the my stove with my canister, but its not that big of a deal.

Given these two which would you recommend.
Thanks!

EDIT: The burton optimus crux stove isn't burton. It's just the optimus crux stove, so I guess the brand is katadyn.
It supposedly folds up very compact, to fit in the base of a canister.

I really like the Brunton Flex. It is 3.4 oz (only .7 oz. heaver than my Vargo Jet-Ti) and folds very compactly.

Pros:
burner (yes, the burner) folds flat
burner diameter is large, giving more even heating (esp. for thin ti cookware)
Fairly lightweight
The Pot Stand arms are large but have 2 fold hinges that make them very compact when stored.

Cons: Pricey at $115. but Brunton stuff is of the highest quality

I'm very happy with my Snowpeak Lite Max. Its light, small, powerful and doesn't need a windscreen in most conditions. Feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

In my book, this stove is the Gold Standard for uprights. I have 2 of them (amongst many others).

The Crux is not a good stove for use in any confined space like a hut or tent. The pot supports are far too low and it gives off a lot of carbon monoxide. If you subscribe you can read our CO series and find out all about it.

Cheers

I really like this stove. However it has a wide flame pattern and I would not use a narrow pot with it. I currently use it with a firelight 1350 and would be hesitant to go to a pot with a smaller diameter.

I have a Titan Kettle and a Crux stove. The cannister and stove fit in the kettle with room to spare.

Ray, I read your review on backpackgeartest.org and you seem to be pretty happy with it.

Now that I know the crux will, will the snowpeak gigapower titanium fir in my msr titan kettle with a canister?

I use my LiteMax with a SnowPeak 600 mug (narrow) and it works great. If you turn the stove on full blast it will put a lot of heat around the mug. If you keep it dialed back its very efficient and you don't lose much heat because of diameter. I had a Pocket Rocket prior to this stove. Its a top burner so it was theoretically better suited for a narrow pot. I can't tell a difference in boil times.

Not with an 8oz canister. I have the Gigapower Ti and the MSR Ti kettle. You might be okay with a 4oz.
