The FireLite 550 was irresistible several months ago when it went on sale but after receiving the pot it became a source of frustration over the lack of a suitable stove of commensurate size. I have tried many different types and sizes but they all have thrown out a flame pattern that sends most of the heat up the sides and out into the ether. The Gram Weenie was the only stove that produced the right flame pattern but it didn’t hold enough fuel to bring even room temp water to a boil. Actually I think my GW was under-capacity because the jets were too low on the height of the stove.

I emailed George Carr (End2End is back in business) about my problem telling him that his GW would be the perfect stove for a small pot like the 550 or a Heiney if held more alcohol. Several hours later George emailed me back telling me he had come up with a modified GW he now calls the Super Gram Weenie (SGW).

As you can see it is a slightly taller stove with the bottom hollowed out to significantly enlarge the alcohol capacity. George says it will hold ¾ ounce of fuel but I believe it actually holds more. The burn time with ¾ ounce (there was room left over in the reservoir) was approximately 12 minutes. It produced a boil of cold water in about 6 minutes. I didn’t keep track of time exactly in as much as I was distracted by my dog which kept throwing her tennis ball at the stove.

I made a stove from Red Bull cans that worked great for my Snow Peak 700, which is a fairly narrow mug. That stove will hold over 1.5 ounces of fuel. The problem is that many alcohol stoves are side burners, so as you said all the heat blows out to the side. The little energy drink cans work great, because they have a small burner, and it points up at the pot.
I made another one today to use with my Tibetan Titanium 1100, but I made it super short – only 1" tall – to work with the BushBuddy pot stand. It weighs 1/4 ounce. The little top burner works well with smaller pots. This stove will hold up to 1 ounce of fuel, but will boil 2c of cold water on only 2/3 ounce.

Just curious if you looked into the Caldera Cone. I have one for my BPL SUL 900 pot and love it. It’s a great, stable system and the cone-shaped windscreen really helps conserve fuel. The alky stove that comes with it is pretty nice.
