Curious as to how low of a temp you guys have slept in a SS UL #5 40dF down bag.
Like with a UL 60 cocoon parka and pants or similar, bivy, tent or a VB or any combination etc etc.
I just got one and it seems pretty lofty for its weight.

Troy, I have one of the older #5s that have no zipper. The usable temperature rating was stated as 35.5 to 52 F. However, I have used mine down to the lower 20s F by wearing several layers to bed, which included a Smartwool zip-t, a couple of fleece layers (one 6oz, one 9oz), and lastly, a MB down inner jacket. On my legs I just had longjohns and pants. Oh, I also used a VBL and was inside a MB Diamond Monoframe. The pads were a GG Nightlight/Thinlight combo (torso length, full length respectively). I was mostly warm and snug throughout the night except when I'd roll off the pad, then the cold would seep through and wake me. Happy trails!
