Just got this stove…it looks like a nice product, but it seems way to big and heavy for backpacking. Maybe canoe camping might be ok. Anyone ever use this backpacking?

Used it on an overnighter a few weeks ago, worked well for 5 people. Pretty efficient, you can barely feel any heat coming up on the sides of the stove. And as cold as we were, that was a bad thing. Boils water faster than anything I've used before. I'm happy with it, and it was a steal on SAC.

It's a bit funny loading something that looks like a hatbox into your pack, but this is a great all-around stove. Boils almost 2 qts in two minutes, workable frying pan for pancakes and trout, totally reliable. Definitely doesn't fit BPL's size and weight guidelines but for a group or base camp it can't be beat. It did emergency duty for 9 on a USFS service trip I led a couple of years ago.

For sure, if you mean as a solo stove.

But it has the capacity to cook for 3 or 4 people in serious snow conditions. Work out the per-person weight under those conditions. That's where it fits right in.

Cheers
