Hey guys, this is by far my absolute favorite UL rain shell. I have been super impressed with its durability (worn every single day on the CT, under a backpack…and NO signs of wear, delamination, nada) and yes, breathability. The only knock against it has been the price…but now Massdrop has it for $165! (I actually may buy a second one for a spare)

I signed up for one at $159. I need another shell like a hole in the head (I really have a problem – I have 2 GT Packlite shells, a (heavy) eVent shell, and a GT Active shell)
I had sworn off “proprietary” membranes but your stellar review and extensive use made me decide to give it a shot.
what he said. I finally can afford new gear and your review is making this my first coat not to come from goodwill. Thanks for the alert.
Well I hope I don’t disappoint – but I’m STILL impressed with this jacket a year after I purchased it. I’ve taken it out in hot n’ humid texas rainstorms to walk the dog – and I’ve been comfortable in it. I wore it nearly constantly on the CT and was quite comfortable.
There’s also no signs of any wear on this thing – even after using it all winter long as my go-to rain jacket here in town.
I don’t need another rain jacket.
I don’t need another rain jacket…
Ah, damn.
When this showed up on massdrop I wondered if it was the same jacket Jen had been talking about. Your reviews, Jen, have influenced a number of people here, me included. Do you have the 2015 model?
What is Rab sizing like I am between a large and Xlarge?
yes, the 2015 version is the one I have. I believe they have changed it for this year.
Rab is a European brand, so I’d probably size up…
Thanks Jenn… good find and thanks for sharing…
ordered one…

Jenn is now personally responsible to anyone who is unhappy with this jacket. Due to an obscure BPL forum rule, apparently currently impossible to find but absolutely binding and fully enforceable, Jenn will have to personally refund the full value of the jacket to any BPL Member ( but not “Friend”) in USD within 3 days of any complaint, no matter how nit picky or unfounded the complaint is, due to her making a personal endorsement. Complaining Members also get to keep the jacket. Sorry Jenn, I just wanted to tell you before Roger Caffin got to you, he can be rough.
I knew I should have read the fine print in the Deals section. That Caffin keeps changing the rules there and I just can’t keep up anymore.
Jen, thanks so much for posting this! I’ve wanted that jacket since I read your reviews of it on the CT last year, and I’ve been looking at the new women’s version this past last month as I try to shave my pack weight. But, I just couldn’t justify paying full price when I have other jackets. Any tips on sizing of the men’s version for females? Get the male size I would in the US and size up one?
that sounds about right susan…I think men’s Rab actually fits me really well…lol!
I was so excited when I opened my massdrop email yesterday. I immediately bought one. :-)
Pulled the trigger on one this morning. I’m usually a medium (6′ 170 pounds) but a RAB large fits me quite well – big enough to layer underneath and the sleeves are just long enough I can tuck my hands inside when it’s raining.
Thanks again, Jen! I ended up sizing up more than planned, as all the L were gone by the time I finally decided to go for it. For anyone sitting on the fence, it’s down to S and XL only!
I got my Flaspoint and it looks pretty good. The hood fits really well when chinched though not as good as my Haglofs.
The inner 3rd layer is very minimal. Similar to my Montbell Peak Shell pants (that are also pretty new).
I like the flash point, it has a reasuring feel dispite the other feeling of wearing a piece of wax paper around my body. Will keep Jenn posted on her offer to refund if it ever turns out I was sold a $160 trashbag
