I am wanting to purchase a Marmot Original Driclime Windshirt, but upon searching, i found the Marmot Ion Windshirt….
These 2 jackets look identical except the Ion has a hood. Other than the hood, does anyone know of any other differences in the two? thanks.

The Ion is just a wind shell. The Driclime is lined with Marmot's wicking Driclime fabric and therefore heavier and warmer. My Driclime Catalyst (like the Original but with pockets) weighs 12.25 oz in large. It's pretty warm down into the high 40s for me, but less versatile that a plain windshell like the Ion because I can't "delayer" the sewn in driclime fabric when it gets warmer.

I'm not familiar with the Ion, but I have an original Driclime. As James said, it has a liner similar to 100 weight Polartech which gives it some warmth, but makes it less versitile. I don't take it often on hikes and prefer to take an unlined windshirt, in my case a Patagonia Houdini, in combination with a separate insulation layer.

Some people (like me) prefer separate insulation and shell layers. If that's you as well — then the Ion is the one to get. The Ion shell jacket weighs around 5 oz. and is meant to block wind and protect from light rain.
