Googling, I did manage to reach their site OK…
Maybe it's just me, but I find it annoying that after viewing just a couple of BS models and floor plans and prices — I end up with a gazillion windows opened!
Ben…what site address did you reach? I am not seeing anything in google but dead ends….
The main website URL is not working – but this one is:
http://bigskyproducts.com/
Weird cause bigskyinternational.com is the URL given all over google….
He used to have 2 web sites, one for product info and one for ordering. Looks like he’s lightened up.
Has anyone ordered from them lately? My impression has always been that they make great tents, but don't really seem to have their act together otherwise. Am I wrong?
Devin,
Although not having direct personal experience, I've read in past forums that wait times for ordered tents were incredibly long – if received at all….
I'm sure Ben (The Gear Enabler) will chime in on this subject later…:-)
Devin — do a search and you'll quickly discover that BS has a horrible track record for tent delivery.
Now, hopefully, folks who have RECENTLY placed orders can chime in about BS' current track record. I've asked in the past on this and other forums but have gotten precious few feedback.
Until you hear a string of positive feedback, I think it's best to wait a bit more — or look elsewhere if you are in a hurry. Losing a website is NOT a good indication of a company finally getting its acts together…
I recently took a risk – based on previous comments about poor delivery – and ordered a Convertible 2P from Big Sky; Bob was very helpful and the tent arrived within a week (I live in the UK, so I was impressed); moreover the tent is fantastic and is light, roomy, has 2 vestibules, good storage, good ventilation…. I used it in very bad weather last weekend in Scotland and it stood up superbly. Be your own judge, I am a very happy customer though.
Good to know. Hopefully we can see a pattern of timely delivery and good service. Otherwise, it's just a real shame that a company can design good tents but not deliver.
Any other recent buyers?
Ben2,
"a pattern of timely delivery and good service" Now, wouldn't that be loverly?
Peter,
Do you think you could take some pics for us? If you can showing the interior with something we can see a scale of the size with?
Thanks,
Chris
Denis:
Indeed it would.
I can't help but notice that your avatar used to be the BS Evolution 2P but is now the Sublite. You tent-slutt, you! :)
Ben2,
"I yam what I yam, and that's what I yam.". Said Popeye the sailor man.
Chris
I'll try and get some pics taken and posted over the weekend… in the meantime the BackpackingLight review had some good pics, as do the reviews on
Pete
Having asked the question numerous times — I still don't see more than 1 or 2 buyers providing positive feedback on delivery.
1. Any other good experience like Pete's where you ordered and you get your tent delivered reasonably quickly?
2. Any positive feedback where you ordered and they were out of stock but they were at least honest and upfront about giving you a firm expected delivery date — and then followed through?
3. Any negative feedback where you waited a lot longer than what you were told?
BS tents are pretty good, but still, until there is a clear pattern of honest dealings, I would be weary about being strung along…
Ben: I ordered a Evolution 1P shelter last Spring and was told delivery would be in 90 days. Because I wanted this tent, waiting was not an issue for me. However, much to my surprise, it was delivered in about 30 days.
