I don’t consider turning back in the face of lousy weather with 50 70 mph winds a “fail”. Rather that’s a “win”.
I recall talking to a fellow Nordic skier once in a warming hut. (for those unfamiliar with these skis, they’re extremely narrow with no metal edges. The only attachment is to your toe with a small metal clip.) Anyway, I was telling him about how I “failed” to take on a steep, icy run. “Ya know how your courage tells you to head on down but something else says, no?” He replied, “Yeah, that’s your common sense speaking”. True, dat.
