I'm looking for new expedition weight base layer…Has anyone compared Capilene 4 to the Sekri and Insport military "level 2" gridded fleece? Both are supposedly made of polartech powerdry. Buying tops and bottoms from Sekri would be about half the price compared to MSRP for the capilene.

Also….am I better served just to use the powerstretch fleece I have and forget about it? Thanks.

I'm probably in the minority here, but I never think Patagonia is worth what it costs. See if what you have works before you do anything though.

Brian I've used the Sekri base layer shirts and been very happy with them. I haven't used the expedition weight stuff though but the lightweight performs very well for me and it's very well priced.

You may want to call Wild Things Gear, it's not listed on their website but their PowerDry Top and Bottom were on sale. The power dry top is a hoody.

Yes, I agree that patagonia is expensive. It is top quality but I would never pay MSRP for it…..I do have the Sekri level one shirt, and I agree, it is great. The combination of x-static and powerdry is awesome. But I'm pretty sure the sekri level 1 is the lightest powerdry (not the gridded fleece). If someone could confirm that level 2 is about the same as patagonia cap 4, I'd probably try it. I'll take a look at the wild things stuff….doesn't the name "wild things" just make you think you should own some!?!

Both are of good quality. Patagonia is going to feel better against you. But even though Patagonia does a lot for the environment, SEKRI employs disabled people and makes them here in the USA which makes much more of a difference. SEKRI stuff also has the silver in it to help discourage odor.

How light is the Sekri level 1. I was looking at getting a patagonia cap 2 zip neck if I could find one on sale but would rather get the Sekri if they're about the same weight.

I agree with the quality and overblown prices for Patagonia. Luckily, I live near the Reno outlet, and 4 times a year they have a 40-60% sale off the outlet prices. It usually comes out to around 25-30% of MSRP. You should see the lines of people there.

James,

My shirt weighed in under 7oz, I believe it was 6.4oz.

Zack, just let me know when the next sale is and I'll send you a list!
: )
