I always end up with the velcro enclosure on the hood of my bag scraping me in the face. What's to stop me from getting that off and just either not using one (like i really need it anyway) or just using a loop and knot if needed. I wouldn't mind removing the marmot patch from the side too. Any suggestions are appreciated.

If you don't need it, remove it. Cut the threads that are exposed every 5 stitches or so, and pick them out.

Is your bag down? If so, be sure the stitching holes won't leak down. A small dab of seam seal might be required to close up the holes. Same with the lable.

Yes it's down, and I believe I'm gonna need the seam sealer. I've found of few feathers since doing it and despite not knowing where they came from, I can take a good guess.
