Hi,
I've got the possibility to buy a nearly new golite jam2 but don't know if the size is right. I've read a couple of times on the forum that sizing up is in order, but have some doubts as my size torso hasn't been mentioned before.

I'm 5'11 with an aprox. 17.5 inch torso (closer to 17 than to 18). I use a granite gear vapor trail regular, but i've noticed it has a small gap (very minor) between the shoulder straps gap and my back, it's a touch to big for me.

Would a jam2 M be the way to go or go for the L ?

Thanks for any help.

George, sizing is a difficult thing. I have owned two golite jam packs both medium and both fit me well. I am 5'10" and I think my torso is about 18" The thing about the jam is that it is really just a daypack. With no load lifters the sizing is more of a personal thing than an exact science. I loved mine and found it packs and carry's best if you wrap your pad around the inside. The hip belt is silly because with no real frame the pack will sag if you use them. I loved mine but it was way too huge for its design. Personal opinion its a 6 of 10 if it was around 2000ci it would be a 10. Ali

George,

I have the Jam2, 2008 model and I sized up to the large.

I am 5'6" and think my torso is 18 to 19 inches.

The Large works for me, but in some ways, I wish the torso lenght was longer so that the full weight of the pack would rest on my hips vs. some on my shoulders.

(In part, I am still trying to get used to a frameless pack).

The reviews that I read here before I bought mine recommended sizing up and I would agree with that recommendation.

As a side note, if I had to do it all over again, I would want to get the new Mountain Laurel Design Exodus pack, which looks like it is the same design as the Jam2 but lighter and better.

The MLD pack is much more expensive, but something you might to look at.

My buddy just got one and I am jealous.

Go for the Regular. The nice thing about the Jam is that being frameless, you can play around a bit with fit given the nautral compression of the torso length as you add weight to the pack.

The belt works great! Because the Jam is cut and sewed with a natural 'S' shape, the wide wings on the belt really suck the pack into your lumbar region. The belt does a great job of transferring some weight to the hips – at least this has been my experience.

I have the GG Vapor Trail in regular and it is just slightly large for me. I have a 19 inch torso but I like to wear my packs high. Therefore I have gone with a medium Jam and it fits me great. However, if I wore it low – a large would probably fit me better.
