A Tarptent user sent me a couple of shots of his Scarp2 with the poles inside set-up. I was curious to see what they would look like in the double.
Pretty much the same as the single really, hard to tell the difference.

Interesting. Seem like if you tied them at the peak, they would line up along and follow the external tie downs.
Is that a Hogback behind the Scarp?
If the long poles were tied at the peak, I think they would be too tall for the hoop cross pole. However, that bring up the question; where and how do you tie them into the structure?

If you do that the pole tips end up on the side of the corner rather then the center. Having the tip right in the center pushes the inverted V struts downwards evenly adding stability , not that it needs that…
See the corner pic of my prototype.
You could also use a shorter pole and have the typical crossover at the apex (as you do with a two pole freestanding design) but the idea was to keep the same poles used for standard TT version, with the poles outside.
The pole inside is not necessarily better, just another way of setting up the Scarp.

Yes that is the Hogback behind the Scarp 2. He is another guy that has a few Tarptents.

I first planted the poles into the grass (3:30AM set up), you may see that in the picture I posted of the inside. Then fiddled with a few solutions and came up with attaching the pole tip to the corners of the inner with a bit of string (not sure how long it was…)
The TT version will be a small clip that attaches to the corner ring of the inner and a small pocket at the other end for the pole tip to sit in.
I will post a few detailed pictures of the way it attaches in a few days (when I get the better than a piece of string version) if that other TT user does not do that first.
