I am working on lightening my load. I am in that period of transitioning from conventional backpacking to Light Weight backpacking. I am also looking at down sizing my pack. I use 2 packs on a regular basis. For weekend hikes I use my Golite Lite-speed. For my 7 day or longer trips I use my Osprey Aether 85. I am torn between replacing my Osprey with either the Granite Gear Nimbus Meridian or the Golite Pursuit. I really like my Golite Lite-speed and I think the Pursuit would have a similar fit. My trip this summer will be in the Absaroka beartooth wilderness and I will need a bear canister. Bear canisters are always a challenge to fit in most packs. My only reservation with the GG Nimbus Meridian is the zipper that runs the length of the pack. Does this zipper or seam ever split open? It appears to me that the pack could have a catastrophic failure on the trail. Does anyone have any insight to this?
