After reading This thread about trying to pull back from buying more gear, and in light of the juggernaut of the downturning wold economy, I thought it might make an interesting exercise to take the whole UL philosophy still further:
How about, on top of lightening the load, we also think of the absolute cheapest selection of gear, be it MYOG (which is not always the cheapest, especially when you consider the time involved in making it), commercially bought gear, only the absolute essential in materials (silnylon vs. cuben), or even long-term economic value (price vs. durability)?
How light and cheap can you go? What would you use and still be safe?
