while comparing many of the major suppliers, each offering slightly different types of CCF whether it be Polyethelene – EVA – Volara – cheap Walmart style…etc…

I found this site and ordered the 3/8" Volara in charcoal gray. I purchased a section 24" by 60" (width of roll, sold by the foot) and was surprised to see the roll was 62" and i recieved 27.5" – so i went to work and cut the pad to my dimensions. A section 24" by 60" weighs 9.5 oz in the 3/8 size.

the feel and color is very much like evazote (GG) and the compression and roll-ability is managable. It has many of the positive properties of EVA.
this foam is rated at 2lb density and comes in a variety of thickness.

the 3/8 size I ordered was a total after shipping of $21

compare that to GG and Speer, you'll find the price lower by several dollars.

if one was to order 6' of this pad, you would end up with TWO 3/8x36x72 at about $17 each, before shipping.

if you are engaged in licensed hunting or fishing, you may carry concealed

section 12027 states that section 12025 (the section outlawing concealed carry) does not apply to certain situations, including:

"(g) Licensed hunters or fishermen carrying pistols, revolvers, or
other firearms capable of being concealed upon the person while
engaged in hunting or fishing, or transporting those firearms
unloaded when going to or returning from the hunting or fishing
expedition."

I think you're in the wrong thread, Cary. Unless there's some ballistic multi-use application of a foam sleeping pad that I don't know about. :)

meant in the "protection" thread as a response to craig's account of CA law re: concealed carry

i don't own a gun, never have – nor a bow for that matter, so i guess i could only use a foam target for casting flies & lures at ;)

i had to wear a gun at work years ago & decided i didn't like the idea

i dont have a gun either. i dont mind them, and have several years of exposure and/or use of them with the proper training (hunter safety course) and i find them a reliable tool for what they are intended to do.

some collect guns.
i collect foam.

but I like your fly fishing remark. fish on dude!

I take it you're talking about groundpads, but I've never heard of "CCF". What does that stand for? Perhaps "closed cell foam"?

Henry, yes its closed cell foam. good thing is you can buy it to suit your dimensions. very few of us can get by with a 19" wide pad. although a wider pad will take up more room inside/outside your pack, for the penalty of an extra ounce or two id rather have a 24" wide pad. i like to think 'outside a box', these are not limited to ground use. i purchased one for use in my bridge hammock :)
