I just put on a pair of NB 812's that have replaced my 811's. I don't know when I'll get a chance to do some hiking in them, but the initial impression is this: much beefier construction, especially in the toes and tread. There's also a lot less mesh and more solid fabric on the upper, although I can't say yet just how much the breathability or drying time is effected by this.

Anyone else test these out yet? I haven't decided if I think they're an improvement over the 811's or not.

I went from the NB 907 to the new NB 909 and I like them. More cush in the heel landing and "water resistant"…what ever the heck THAT means!

Several months ago I considered buying the 812's, but ended up buying the NB 908's on sale from Zappos.com instead. Both are designated by NB as trail runners. The 908's are discontinued and replaced by the 909s, but still available. I have used them 2-3 times a week for day hikes in the Sierra of Northern California for the past two months. A very good shoe for hiking, aggressive tread, good lateral rigidity, quick drying, although not quite as supportive as the Montrail Hardrock, but on the other hand the NB sl-1 last, which the 908 has, fits me better, and fit is everything in hiking shoes. Happy St. Patrick's day. Slainte!
