Bill of White Box Stoves sent me out one to play with and I had a lot of fun playing with it.

Original WB on the left, Solo on the right:

White Box Stoves

It is 1 1/2″ high and the stove with accessories comes in at 2.2 ounces. Boiled 2 cups 35* water in about 6 1/2 minutes in my HAA GSI Kettle – I will be playing around with other pots in the near future as well. For those wanting to know outside temps – upper 30*’s with a good wind.

GSI Tea Kettle

Bill mentioned to me that the Solo Stove works best with pots such as: MSR© Titanium Titan Kettle, Vargo© .9L pot, Snow Peak© 900 or 1100, Evernew© Titanium #1, #2, #3 and flat bottomed ‘tea’ kettles such as the GSI HAA Halulite or Primus one. (Not for use with tall narrow pots such as the Heinie or Ti/stainless steel mugs.)

I shot a video as well that I posted up to my YouTube account.

(Not to tout my site – but I loved the new version!) Bill is shipping them to me on Monday. I have them up for presale over on the FBC website as of tonight :-)

That should also mean in the next couple weeks that other retailers of White Box Stoves will pick the up! I hope they do! The Solo is going to be a fun stove to play with.

looks like the advantages for solo use are lighter, more stable, shorter windscreen ?
I have only used the other with 1/2 to 1.5 oz of fuel, this looks like it can still take more than 1 oz, is this right ?

Yes :-) It can take 1 1/3 ounces of fuel – so a good burn time. You could use less of course, as desired. I need to play with mine more and time how much I need to boil 2 cups water and have it burn out right after. 1 1/3 ounces will boil the water and keep it cooking for quite some time.

Sarbar it sounds like you had a great time at the PCT kickoff. Wish I could have been there too.

Bill, it was a lot of fun….we took with us both the regular and the Solo and sold out of both. Then sold a number of them to be shipped once home. Then came home to more orders online from the Trail Fest!

People just love touching your stoves :-D

Sarah, I noticed in one of your photos that you paired the Whitebox with a kettle. I have a similar Primus kettle, which I've used only once. The reason for that is when it came to a boil it jetted a good portion of the water out the spout! Do you have a similar experience or am I doing something wrong? Thanks.

I guessing over fill. I have the same GSI halulite kettle as Sarah. I use it almost daily at home on the stove top. It will sputter some water droplets when filled to capacity, but it has never jetted any thing substantial.

Defintely watch the water levels. When it hits full boil, if it is over the level the water gets pushed up that little opening and eek, watch out!

I keep it 32 ounces or less in my kettle. One nice thing about the newer GSI kettle (the one I am using in the photo) compared to previous models is how wide the top opening is – you can open that up a bit to release steam as well.

My Primus tea kettle along with an older steel one I had would do the same thing if over 4 cups of water as well….think of it like a caldera bubbling ;-)
