We're doing a rim to rim hike in the Grand Canyon in mid-May and I need to buy packs and sleeping bags for my wife and I. We're going with some friends who have done this 4 or 5 times and we are going to be mainly on the corridor trails as we didn't get the wilderness route we wanted.
We want to keep our loads around 30 lbs or less and I'm not sure if we're going to bring a tarp or small tent in case it rains. Our friends have gone without them and have been OK. We're looking at internal frame packs and my wife bought a Kelty Redwing that seemed fine in the store but once we got it home and she put some weight in it she doesn't feel comfortable with it. So we're not sure what direction to go in with packs but we're thinking something 3500 cu in or so should do it.
We also bought Eureka mummy bags that seem like they'll be fine. They have synthetic insulation and weigh less than 3 lbs and they're pretty small in their stuff sacks. She has a 15 degree bag and I got a 30 degree bag. We still need to get pads.
Any suggestions for packs, pads and shelters or anything else would be much appreciated!
Thanks, Bill
