Okay, what is the deal with these and how do they work because I live in gear hell and don't have access to them. Thanks.

old thread

many more systems exist, but they all do the same thing, which is tighten the lines of tent or tarp once you have it all set up and the stakes in the ground.

Seems like I end up tying taut line hitches on the opposite end of my guylines from the tensioners, and using those.

"My taut-line hitch weighs in at 0.0 and the cost was $0."

but does it glow in the dark? ;-)

That depends on how much scotch I had around the campfire….at times they appear to!

Brian,

I use the exact same knot! But i did get a pair of JRB tensioners for my tarp ridgeline tie-outs that i’ve yet to try. I have a feeling i’ll have to do what Joe does and TLH them on the stake side. They’ll probably end up being novel adn i’ll take them off.

Peter,

your tensioners glow in the dark!??!?!

Edit: LOL. i was thinking self tensioners, but now i see my error. Yea, i agree. Cut em off and go with Taut-line-hitches :)

Peter,

I do seem to recall a thread about those now that i think about it.

I'm assuming they charge by solar power/flash light but how long do they glow before becoming just white plastic again?

If you get up 4 hours into the night, can you still see them glowing?

I have about 30 small tensioners (I will never use them) I would love to pass them on to people that do. I could ship them in packs of Ten….

PM if interested

I never did get out of the tent this early since I got them, so I don't know. Probably not useful in the middle of the night. That's where the refelctive guy lines come in, because in the middle of the night you're probably using a flashlight.

I just figured why get the black ones when there's glow in the dark :)

I just posted a thread for Automatic Guyline Tensioners on the MYOG forum. They don't glow in the dark, but they really work.
