This is just in pre-production, but looks interesting. Not sure I’d classify it as a “tent”, but I’d give it a whirl.

Vessel Coat

“During warm weather, the coat can be folded and strapped around the wearer as a backpack for easy transport. When it’s time to set up camp, the interior lining can be stretched out and pegged—creating a private, protective cocoon. Again, it’s only a concept at this point—but I’ve watched enough Suvivorman and Man vs. Wild to know that something like this could be useful in the real world.”

Nathan,

Looks like a cool concept and I would be curious to know the estimated weight of it.

Is there a website that you found this information?

Tony,

The word "this" in the original post is linked to the article. (The link tags on BPL are too subtle!) Not much information at the site unfortunately.

I'm just aggravated that you beat me to posting it. That's what I get for staying late at work today!

Hi,

This looks like part of an idea I once had for a "Great Kilt"

"The International Association of Sub 1 Pound (Gear List) Backpackers (I.A.S.1.(GL)P.B.)" at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/sub1pounders/

will have to take a hard look at this idea.

We may have to put out a call to "The King of Cuben" and see what he can come up with.

It isn't a backpack
Provably a very heavy non breathable rain jacket
A largish condensation producing bivvy that you set up whilst you get soaked.
Some of the above does not apply if it never rains where you are.
( in that case a rain jacket may not be needed)
But it does look cool, doesn't it ?
