I'm in the market for a lighter pack for summer climbing trips. I'm looking for a pack that can carry 40lbs comfortably, and around 65L or 4000 cu in.

I'm lightening up my pack inventory and I currently have a Dana Terraplane, Vortex 4200 STX, Osprey Impala, and a Mountain Hardwear South Col. The south col is my main pack at the moment -great pack! flexible, solid and great capacity and carry for about 4lbs- but at 4600 cu in a bit bigger than what I need in the summer.

I've looked at lighter packs but I've calculated that 36 lbs (including climbing gear and food and water for about 6 days) is as light as I can get while carrying climbing equipment.

I'm leaning toward the Flash 65 since it appears to meet my criteria….have I overlooked any other possible candidates?

Thanks,
BrianJ

Im looking for something similar to what you need and I came to the conclusion that the Golite Quest is the best choice for me.
It is rated to comfortably carry 40lbs by BPL and can be cinched smaller with the compact system and have the lid removed when you need less volume.
I dont know how tough the fabric is for climbing but Ive heard no complaints anywhere about durability.
Also for more money Cliogear has climbing and mountaineering specific packs that every one raves about.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll take a look at the quest again -I had forgotten about that one- and the cilogear packs….I'm not familiar with those at all.
