I have been thinking of making a wader for river crossings as a fast way to get across and stay dry.

Saw a thread that mentioned the Wiggys lightweight wader http://wiggys.com/moreinfo.cfm?Product_ID=5

which is basically a giant tube that goes over your boot.

This is what I was thinking of making, but at under 9oz the Wiggys look pretty good.

Anybody have any experience using these simply for quick stream crossings, NOT actual fishing?

Hi Mike.
A guy in my native Scotland makes a hiking wader called Dry Walkers They weigh 7 ounces and cost £16/$24. I haven’t seen them myself, but have read accounts of folk using them. I don’t know how durable they would be, as they seem to be made from mainly polyethelene.
