Does anybody know is the 5oz weight for the Climashild XP at thru-hiker.com is really 5oz/yd? is it heavier than stated if not?

No.

It is about 6oz according to Bill Fornshell. See "cuben fiber /climashield sleeping bag" thread in the MYOG forum for more info.

Cheers

The 5 ounce per sq yard XP I used in my last sleeping bag weighed an average of just over 6 ounces a sq yard. I could tell when I first looked at it that most was thicker than I expected.

I have used other Climashield insulation that was also a little over weight. If you look at some of my first quilts almost every one of them weighed more than I expected. You get a warmer item but it also is a little heavier than you may have planned for. You also are not paying for the extra weight.

When I cut my insulation now I cut some random pieces about 5" square and do a weight check.
