I'm not a mountaineer, just a hiker. But I'm trying to get a better understanding for clothing for us and mountaineers.
From what i've read, the best set up for hiking in cold weather is pretty much
1)Capilene (what best for cold 2,3,or 4?)
2)Patagonia R1 Hoody
3)Houdini Wind Jacket
4)Integral Designs event thru-hiker Jacket
For mountaineering would it be best to add over your r1 hoody a patagonia down sweater or a patagonia R2
Also, when mountaineering do they use heavier, tougher jackets?
Another thing I see on many hikers cold weather clothing list is a vest, such as a patagonia micro puff vest. Is this to be worn over the R1 hoody, and do you wear it when hiking?
Sorry for all the questions.
I'm just trying to get a better understanding as to what all this clothing is for.
Thanks
