STP lists the weight of the 1 L Nalgene canteen at 2.2 oz. That's probably fairly accurate since my 2 L version comes in at 2.3 oz. and most of the weight is at the neck and the cap. The cap itself weighs 0.7 oz.

Ben, I haven't been visiting the forums much lately, so I'm a bit behind. Did you finally get a Steripen?

Ben and Dondo, it is "Roleigh" not "Raleigh" — my great grandmother paid off a city official to have my grandfather intentionally spelled differently (I do not know why).

Anyway, I have two different brands/styles of coffee filters used in nalgene bottles — I'll see if either fits inside the grocery store 2.9 oz bottle I showed above and will report back about that over the weekend.

Oops, sorry, Roleigh! I've edited my spelling up above.

Tad — You can get them pretty much anywhere — Wal Mart, KMart, Target, etc. I've also seen them made with plastic-like material. The beauty with either is that it doesn't absorb water (unlike cloth bandanna or paper filter) and so it won't slow down water flow by much at all.

Two options that come to mind:

1. Coffee filter — cut out a round piece just a tad bigger all around than the bottle opening.

2. Coughlan's funnel filter — cheaper but a bit more work to cut out the metallic filter inside. This is what I use and no worries about rust.

Tad, could you provide some more details on the steripen adapter you made. How did you measure and cut the hole? What kind of foam are you using? Thanks.

Dondo:

I used to have a Steripen but gave it up. I now use a combination of bleach and then drink through an AquaMira Frontier Pro filter.

OP — sorry for going on a tangent. Now back to 1L water bottles…

Sorry about that, Roleigh. I'll change my posts. ;-)

Dondo, I've edited my original post to hopefully address your questions. If you have more let me know.

Tad, I think I reread your post, what type of foam did you use, where did you get the foam? Thanks.

ps – I uploaded a photo of my 900 ml Titanium Coffee Mug/Pot.

A platy water scoop?!?! GENIUS. I'm going to go make one now. How did I not think of that?

Stephen, on the BPL store page for Aqua Mira Frontier Pro, there is a youtube video that shows this and more — really worth watching.

Roleigh, the foam is just some kid of CCF I got at Seattle fabrics. I purchased a remnant to use as a sit pad in the summer (summers are still wet in Seattle) and just cut off a corner. It looks like the same kind of stuff the GossamerGear thinlight 1/8” is made out of, just a different color. You could probably use a piece of regular blue CCF, it might make for a even better seal.
