See my gearlist for 8 days on the Ozark Highlands Trail in my profile.
I will have a sub 10 pound baseweight if I switch to:
– GG Mariposa Plus
– GG Nightlite Torso
– Montbell UL Down Inner
But it is what it is right now!

Looks like a solid list to me. Some might argue that the spot is overkill since you can't get too far from a road in arkansas. Most of the time you can even get cell service on the ridges.
Have a good time and post some pictures!
Stuart:
I see where you are starting with 4 days food. Where do you plan to resupply? Just curious. Also, since your gear list says 8 days, are you planning to hike the entire OHT in 8 days? Again, just curious.
Good Luck,
Jim
How much fuel are you taking? I agree about not really needing the Spot.
I know the spot is really unneeded, but it makes my family feel better. I also rationalize it in that I can only use one arm and if I hurt my right arm I would be unable to really do anything.
Right now, I'm planning on doing an out and back to Ozone in 8 days which is around 22 miles per day. The first 112 miles of trail are clear, but the remaining portion suffers from heavy ice damage and is impassable in a lot of places. I'm mailing 4 days food/fuel to the Ozone Post Office.
I am taking 5.5 ounces of fuel / 4 days. I know I could probably take less, but I just got the Caldera and would like the buffer.

Before you become too committed to the Spot, subscribe to BPL and read the rather negative review of the Spot. You might change your mind!

Thanks Roger. Although I am aware of the bad reviews I received it as a gift and have had such a rough time getting people off my case it is worth the deadweight!
I understand not to rely on it.
Roger, I thought the Spot was bad in many places outside the US (and you are in NZ). For for someone who hikes only in the US, what is your overall impression of the Spot?
Secondly, want to take a wild guess when next Gen (Gen 2) of the Spot is released?
Thanks
