i just ordered a new tri ti caldera from titanium goat, can't wait to see how well it works.

and i have to say, you guys here at BPL are a bunch of gear enablers. since becoming a member last month i have spent a couple hundred bucks on gear i think. that may not seem like much, but a month ago i thought i was good thru this fall.

thanks alot.

Stick with this group and you'll be in the poor house before you can say "carbon fiber", "cuben", or "titanium".

Yes Denis, but with the best toys…

Unlike others here, I try my best to instill moderation and caution but in the end one can never have too many Tarptents.
To keep away from further temptation, don't look at the Montane thread, good stuff from the UK.
The Ti Tri is nice and easy , enjoy it.

And more often you give tantalising glimpses about the newest tarptents 'soon to be released' and we all go frothy at the mouth in anticipation. Enabler is a good description ;) (but admitedly a lot of the tarptents are really, really nice)

Sorry for the thread hi-jack but I have a question for ti-tri users. I am wondering soot on the inside of the cone flakes off in the cookpot during storage after wood use.

It can do if you store the cone in your pot. You can put it in a thin plastic or silk bag to stop this, or just rinse the soot out with a little water. I use the Caddy, so it's not a problem I have to deal with.

thanks denis, carbon fiber……titanium……..must stop now.

and franco, i have yet to buy a shelter so that's a big savings. i am making a shaped tarp and only spent about $40-$50 so far. my last tarp was tyvek that i got for free. so don't tempt me.

Since Stuart has introduced the Ti Tri Caldera Cone into this thread, I have to say that I like how it flexes rather then bend , should last a lot longer than aluminium apart of course allowing wood burning as well.

got my ti tri caldera with 550 pot. man is it nice. with the alcohol stove fuel bottle and titanium stakes for wood burning and the caddy its under 7oz. i like the titanium quality and workmanship. i used to be a machinist.

anyhow boiled 16oz on 1 oz fuel fuel easily (in perfect conditions of course). i haven't had a chance to try to wood burning setup yet.
as i am going on my first long (for me) hike this summer, and will be below tree line, i am thinking for a week i can just bring the 4oz. of fuel and use wood the rest. this will keep my weight nice and low.
i really like the caddy as well since it can be used as a cup and bowl.

thanks titanium goat!

well i just did a wood fire test with my tri ti caldera.

twice i boiled 16 oz of ice water with a handful of pine twigs. as this is my first wood burning stove (i have cooked over a campfire of course), i really like the idea of gathering my own fuel instead of packing it. plus there also some amount of joy from maikng fires! the winscreen has blued from the heat, but that was to be expected.i found that the soot cleans off the titanium windscreen very easily as well.

so i expect you gear enablers will be trying to talk me into a bush buddy next.

doh….
