Actually, I was hoping you were referring to long underwear, as I would have used it as a vapor barrier…and yes, I have a serious problem. :(

OK,OK,OK, I know I have a problem and I need to get help but seriously. You can use them as a vapor barrier?? Ali

I don't know exactly what Cuban fiber is, but it seems like you might have trouble buying it with the current trade embargo.

Evan, methinks Phil was making a little joke.

And surely this should be in Chaff?

PostedFeb 10, 2009 at 7:50 pm

Well, if we're not going to talk about cuben VBs, yes, it should be in Chaff.

cheers

Following the lead of President Fidel Castro , Cubans wear mostly cotton boxer shorts, however according to a 1971 FBI report (stamped "almost top secret") Fidel occasionally used to wear nylon briefs and stockings. Some suspect that this report originated from a J.E.Hoover daydream.

Sorry I cannot reveal my sources, but if you are nice I can tell you about my sauces.

Well, if Franco doesn't want to talk about Cuben VBs, this thread can't be about Cuben VBs! :)

cheers

Yeah, I have a serious problem.

Wondered how those CF underwear would breath. Rashes might be horrendous. ;^)

Well I was pretty surprised that the Cubans were going into VB, since this has always been a Fosters stalwart

VB
Unfortunately this seems to be just a viscious rumour put about by Franco, and for the moment they're sticking to Hatuey
Hatuey

Apparently we should always carry one of these to keep our headuey warm.

I'm fine, I was just looking to see who has a serious problem…but I DO think cuben long underwear woud be great as a VBL.

Hey guys- Seriously, didn't Bill threaten to post pics of himself wearing cuben underwear of some kind a while ago? I know he made VBL socks out of it that looked pretty great.

There is a thread of serious gear discussion going on here. Come winter, I fully intent to trial some cuben 'underwear' as a VBL.

Seams like MYOG to me. I'm gonna use the Liberty Ridge Thru-Hiker pattern for the top, and my thoroughfare pants for the bottom pattern. 0.32oz/yd cuben is already and waiting for me to sculpt it.

Lynn
Now that we have some serious input, have you thought of some sort of FUZZY STUFF "liner" as Stephenson's call it ?

Lynn,
If you end up making a set – I'll buy a set off you. The current VB clothes available are much too heavy and my attempt at bonding a set together didn't turn out.

PostedFeb 11, 2009 at 1:04 pm

Franco, I've been using "fuzzy stuff" for years, and I love it. But this is BPL, so I feel the need to go lighter!

PostedMay 7, 2009 at 1:16 pm

How much lighter do you need to go? Is this kind of mens underwear light enough for you? It certainly wouldn’t chaff but I won’t say that it’ll keep you warm either. Well, it might make someone else want to keep you warm, but that’s about it.

Steven,
WHY didn't it work when you bonded it together ??? I need to know what happened as I have the Hysol all set to try out on the new shelter.

The modified rain chapps I made last year would be the perfect pattern for the VB bottoms if I didin't cut out the crotch area. They weighed exactly 1.0 oz. and I'm sure the area I trimmed wouldn't have added much additional weight. I can see that working out quite well!

Hey Kevin,
That was before I tried the hysol stuff. I think I was using the 3M. No need to worry. :)
