I finally got a new sleeping bag (very light, 28 oz) and want to keep it in nice shape – so I want a bag liner. I sleep in a hammock almost exclusively, but do go to ground occasionally.

I really like the sound of a nice silk liner, but you also need to know that I'm extremely cheap. There's no way I'm paying that much for a piece of cloth.

So – I'd like to make my own and would love some help on a good design.

Being a hanger, I tend to use my sleeping bag as an over quilt, so I would like the liner to be able open up enough where it will only leave a couple feet closed for a foot box. I'd also like to stay away from zippers, but I'm not completely against them.

Here are a couple sites for silk that I've found.

Please comment on design, materials to use (doesn't have to be silk), what thickness I need if I do use silk, and anything else that fits.

Thanks in advance.

If you are willing to be careful with your liner, the lighter silks (4.5-5mm) are cheap enough to make one quilt liner and one bag liner. What is the weight limit for your liner? Dave at Oware once stated tricot fabric is lighter per warmth than silk or fleece IIRC, but its been a long time. His liners weigh 8.5 oz
