No permit issue. Last minute OK.
far be it from me to interrupt us
Is it legal to use a Bush Buddy or Ti-Tri in the park? I am aware that open fires are not allowed.
This hike was originally set to try to catch some nice spring wildflowers … we shall see. Here is what the coepark.org site is saying right now — sounds pretty nice:
"This year, the hills are turning greener than green after a winter of steady rains. The rains are helping heal the fire scars on the landscape, and wildflowers are popping. First, milkmaid and shooting star, then a profusion of blooms and a kaleidoscope of color as multitudes of flowers emerge to greet the season. The air is warming, the sun is getting stronger, and the sounds of bees humming and birds calling delight our ears. Deciduous oaks are leafing, and soon California buckeye will add the fragrance of its blossoms to the air."
from a few reports of friends' hikes last week or so, i'd say we've timed it just about perfectly
Guys I have to bow out due to a scheduling conflict with work. I have to attend a wine makers dinner in Carmel Saturday night. Bob I will pm you.
Rancheria Falls is on my vacation tiime sooooo that won't happen. Guys have a fun hike!!
Wow, that sounds like some really tough work there Ken! Need any help?
I was wanting to check out your setup since last time I arrived after dark then woke up after you had taken it down! Have to wait til Rancheria falls…you're still using the Cape, right?
Joe, it is a rough job. I am a wine and spirits sales rep. for the largest distributor in the USA. It has perks for sure, but when it collides with my other passions, it can be a bummer.
Nate, I actually sold the the Gatewood. Nothing wrong with it, I needed money and had two shelters so I sold it and kept my Tarptent. Rancheria will be fun. Bob and I are heading up Friday if anyone else is interested.
Ken,
I'll be up for Friday. Let me know where to meet.
We'll miss ya!
Nate – maybe Lane will bring his cape to Rancheria…
I would like to make it but I'll be in the Grand Canyon doing the rim to rim to rim. Bummer.(ha ha)Have fun yall.
Josh
Thanks Cary.
Dennis, the backpackers parking lot is directly across from the campsites. They are all numbered and such. When we get closer to the trip we will discuss. It is real easy to find others at those camp sites.

Is this in reference to the Coe trip? If so, I do not understand — there are no campsites at the Hunting Hollow entrance — you cannot camp within 1/2 mile of the trailhead. Anyone arriving Fri needs to hike in at least that far.

Sorry Bob, Dennis and I were referring to the Rancheria Falls trip next month. Sorry for the confusion
No problem. I figured as much, but thought I should double check, since it did pop up in the Coe thread. I wanted to make sure no one would be heading for the main entrance by mistake.
Looks like I definitely can't leave by early enough Friday to make a short run at part way in, so I'm going to be starting Sat for sure. I still may try to drive part way and camp somewhere Friday night, but probably can't leave Sacramento until aroud 8 anyway.
If Saturday, probably leaving Sac around 8:30 or so – not sure how long it will take me to drive all that way. Ideas? (I drive speed limit).
So does that get me to trailhead 11-12 or so? Does that work for anyone to meet me?
So my friend bailed on the trip this weekend. I was going to get a ride with him, and although he's generously offered me the use of his vehicle, I'd rather see if anyone else would be willing to give me a ride first before I engage on that oh-so-tenuous enterprise of borrowing your friend's vehicle. In anycase, if anyone wouldn't mind, let me know the logistics of getting somewhere near you to meet up. (I'm very public transportation savvy…so not a problem getting somewhere easy, I'd think). I would be down for Friday or Saturday, whichever works.
Anyway, yah, Pm me if you can help out.
Is anyone else wanting to leave on Fri? If so, is there any coordination we should do, such as rides or camping together that night?
I am in San Jose. Not sure what time to leave — I suppose to beat the rush I should leave by about 3:00. That would imply time to hike in a bit Fri evening.

might be able to get you from somewhere if you can't get a better ride from someone else (not too many of us on this trip now, though) – i'm coming from Sacramento & don't know the bay scaryia very well; maybe you can suggest the best rendezvous point?
you should know that i'm driving Carlita, my 1983 Toyota Sandtana camper – she's old and slow, and the passenger door doesn't open, so you can either slide over from the driver's side, climb over from the back after using the side camper door, or do a dukes of hazard race car entry through the window (which seems most appropriately ironic in a relic that often can't do 40 on hills).
Cary,
I've never heard it called the Bay Scaryia…hilarious. Like "Hollyweird". Well, I'm in sin city over here, so Sacramento would be way out of the way for all involved. I really want to go Friday, so I think I'm going to try to hitch with Bob Friday. Do you know if Lane is driving? He lives close by and maybe he could give me a ride back….he's not on here much, though, but hopefully he'll weigh in.
just made that up, but the crowded, frenetic bay area is scary for me :)
i don't think lane was planning on this trip – i'll email him right quick & check see though
Here are some photos of a trip similar to ours, but in August.
