My question is, how waterproof is the top of the new Nano Bivy? It says its made of Pertex Quantum fabric. I have a Western Mountaineering Alpinelite sleeping bag and it is supposed to be made out of Pertex Quantum Nylon. It is not very waterproof when it contacts condensation on the inside of my Virga 2 tent walls. Is the bivy fabric treated with something to make it more water repellant? For 4.6 ounces I would like to use it to keep my bag drier in my tarptent.

I have the normal BMW bivy (with the silnylon floor) and what I can tell you from my experience is that Quantum is a highly “water repellant” material but it isn’t waterproof in the sense of PU or PTFE membranes. The bivy is at its best when used in conjunction with a tarp or floorless shelter where you’d expect the odd drip from condensation OR side-blown rain/snow and affords the quilt sleeper substantial protection from drafts. It probably adds about 5-7 F to the rating of any sleep system since the fabric is HIGHLY breathable.
Quantum is a 20D calendered nylon fabric with a DWR treatment. According to Pertex, the greatest design feature of this fabric is its compressibility.
