Hey y'all,

Can anyone comment, if not from experience than from a theoretical perspective, on the comparative durabily of Joe at ZPacks ~1.5 oz/sqyd Cuben and Ron at MLD's Dyneema X?

Here are descriptions from the websites:

~1.5 oz/sqyd Cuben Fiber fabric. This is the material used in the "Blast" backpacks. It has more than twice the spectra thread count of the .6 oz version, and has a thicker membrane as well. It has high tensile strength, and very good abrasion and puncture resistance. Much stronger than sil-nylon or the .6 oz fabric.

Dyneema X
4 oz sq/yd 210D Nylon with a white 210 Dyneema ripstop grid ( 1/4") reinforcement at 0 and 90 degrees. The high Dyneema content equals 9% of total fabric weight. Each Dyneema thread can hold over 150lbs. An aditional X patten of Nylon overweave improves abrasion and tear resistance and is beautiful enough for intimate apparel. PU waterproof coated.

Dyneema by a long shot! I haven't used the 1.5oz cuben, but my old Gust dyneema pack is virtually indestructable!

I'm sure the dyneema is stronger, but considering it is heavier than the cuben that is not a surprise. Joe's packs go for the lightest weight possible. Ron's packs go for the strongest possible construction in a fairly lightweight package. It just depends on what you are looking for and how you will use it. A bit hard to make a direct comparison here.

My Dyneema packs have taken a lot of punishment, and are like new. It's a very strong and durable fabric.
