I own UL BPL/Oware WPB Bivy with optional zip out noseum mesh. Considering purchase of BPL/Oware Nano or MLD LightSoul (no noseum option available)

Have used bivy with tarp in heavy rain (spring/fall) or both under tarp or cowboy in sub zero with light snowfall. Usually fully zipped but with noseum zipped in to allow venting of my breath. Frequently have had condensation and frost not only on noseum but on outside of my sleeping bag near face area due to breath getting trapped inside bivy but outside sleeping bag.

Q:If I leave the noseum home for weight savings in no bug seasons….

Should I zip up bivy just partway to allow my breath to vent? Leave it wide open? or zip shut completely expecting more condensation/frost inside the bivy? Or does it depend more on rainspray or snow in your face?

(Oh yea, I toss and turn all nite, rolling on my side, etc, so I can't expect my face to stay aligned with a small opening in bivy)

I would suggest a snorkel. I you breathe into the bivy, I suspect condensation is inevitable.

inevitable because I roll around not keeping my face aligned with the bivy opening? or just inevitable?

Hmmm, inevitable if you roll into a position where you end up not breathing into the opening. Quite possible in any event IF the waether is either very cold (cold enough for water vapour to condense before it gets through the bivy fabric) or very wet.
