I've been doing some research on various gaiters in preparation for an upcoming ski trip.

I added some specs to the BPL wiki:

I'll mostly be cross country skiing but have a day planned for some down hill as well. I'll be wearing Mountain Hardwear Synchro soft shell pants.

I presently own the ID eVENT shortie gaiter but am considering getting a taller gaiter for deep snow. What's worked for you?

I particular like MLD new LightSnow gaiter… but it appears they may not fit over a plastic (tele) boot.

For cross country skiing, I like a shortie gaiter like Integral Designs eVent, REI Spring, Or MLD. The secret to making these work is to tuck the top into your tights or long johns. This gives a shingle effect against rain from getting in the top of the gaiter, and forms a very good seal against snow.

For backcountry skiing with a plastic boot, I don't use gaiters at all. I just use pants with a drawcord ankle that seals around the top of the boot.

Thanks Mike! Since I own the ID eVENT shorties, it sounds like I may already have what I need then. My soft shell pants have a stretch cord on the bottom so this will cover the tele boots.
