Most people will tell you that an alcohol is no good for winter weather. Here is a video that someone posted on youtube that might blow that -ism out of the water, not just plain water but frozen ice that is.

The stove is slow to bloom as always but still burned for over 21 minutes. Starting with 750ML (over 3 cups) of solid ice it boiled it for over 7 minutes on one fill of fuel. My guess is he could have boiled at least 5 cups of water before the fuel would have run out. Not bad for an alcohol stove. He wasn't even using the best type of fuel for the stove and that is why you see the yellow flames.

Inside on the kitchen table may not qualify as winter weather.

It is a nice stove, but not a winter stove.

I agree in that being indoors isn't as good a situation as being outdoors but the fact it will turn ice into boiling water is still pretty darn good.

I tested my stove outside last winter. It was -10F below zero and I left the stove outside with the fuel bottle and 2 cups of water for two hours prior to testing. As all alcohol fuel it was hard to light but it did light and the stove did boil the water that was nearly completely frozen.

I think if more people tried this stove they would become believers. It may not be the best choice for winter conditions but it will work.

Not sure how safe it is but when I used the WB at just above freesing to boil a mix of water and ice I just lit a cotton ball smeared with petroleum jelly (Vaseline) and dropped that inside the stove. We use 95% Ethanol here.
It worked for me…
