I have a pair of Black Diamond Crampons as well as a pair of Kahtoola MicroSpikes (http://www.ems.com/catalog/product_detail_square.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524442599152&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302899705) and was wondering how I should decide to bring one or the other on a winter hike? The MicroSpikes are obviously much lighter and are surprisingly good on ice. The BD Crampons are awesome on the ice but are fairly heavy. Suggestions?

Just guessing here but based on a year's use of MicroSpikes, I'd say if the terrain has lots of vertical and exposure, stick with the crampons. Otherwise, use MicroSpikes.
