I just returned a big agnes sl2 from rei. way too heavy. I am 6" 1 and 225 . I am considering which tents would work for me . A rainbow or a sublite . Tyvek or sil. local is so cal so mostly sierras. zion. etc. Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks

Floor length and ceiling height are very close to the same. The big differance is in the weight, the sublite is much lighter and packs smaller. Either TT will get the job done, if I were selecting between these shelters I would go with the sublite in either the tyvek or silnylon.

Since you tend to hike in dry areas, the Sublite, in Tyvek, would probably suit your needs. It is lighter and breathes better than silnylon. I just received my Sublite and hope to get out in the next week or so. I've set it up and made a ground sheet. It is really a well made piece of gear and I will be using it for all my 2009 hikes.

Having used both, I definitely like the Sublite better, but using the hiking stix for a dual purpose comes into play in my thinking. Lighter weight and smaller packed size are a big plus. If steady rain isn't a problem then the Tyvek might be the way to go… too wet where I live, so I went for the silnylon.

How do you guys think the silnylon sublite compares to the contrail ? Is one any more condensation prone, better in windy rain, or harder to enter &/or dress in without touching the walls ?

Thanks.
