I am going for a long ski this winter (about two weeks) and I am thinking that I could do better than my current swiss tool. Anyone have any ideas for a decent multitool that would be up to the tasks of general ski and binding repair and maintenance? The Leatherman Squirt P4 is the only candidate I’ve seen so far. I’m also open to suggestion for other solutions to screwing down a loose binding, repairing a bent binding, etc.
I don’t know about it’s usefulness for screwing down bindings, but I LOVE the Radioshack-edition squirt that I have. Extra useful, for me but not for camping, as the pliers are multi-guage wire strippers.
You might also consider one of the key-chain tools from gerber, from the ones I’ve played with at stores, the quality is on par with or better than leatherman.
specifically check out the clutch if you want pliers…
This probabally isn’t the best for a ski trip, but it’s a good multi-tool for a hardcore ultralighter that can get away with a very basic cutting edge. I really only use a knife for cutting rope or packaging or the like, so it works for me. Weighs 0.5 oz Could be worn on string around your neck. The 3 screw drivers and bottle opener are handy around the city too. It’s a bit awkward to use, but we’re talking ultralight right?

I’ve been meaning to grab one of those. I figure if I keep it on my key chain, and toss my keys in my bag, TSA isn’t likely to squawk about it…
