Clearly highest warmth/weight is reached with high power down and thin fabric in a spartan design. Back to the reality of scarce resources…
It seems that some companies are achieving good weights using 600-750 power down and very light ripstop. In other cases I find 800+ down and 1.9oz/yard or heavier ripstop.
In all reasonable cases a garment's total weight of fabric is much greater than the total weight of down. It dawned on me that I may find a better product by considering the shell material first and the fill power second. Any thoughts?
