Hi, Craig,

Interesting. I was in particular wanting to know how much Terry’s rig would boil on one cube, but good to know about the Wetfire version.

How do you like your Triad on alcohol? What has been your experience with it?

"How much water can you boil on one ESBIT cube?"

Jim, with my BPL wing stove/screen I usually get 2 C. of cool water to boil in about 9-11 minutes, and the 14 gm. Esbit tab continues to burn for 4-6 minutes after that. The speed of the boil is dictated by the pot diameter (Titan Kettle faster than a Snow Peak 600), and also the distance from the tab to the pot bottom.

If well protected from wind and properly distanced below your pot, I find that one Esbit cube will usually bring 3 cups of water to boil. If you just need to get water really hot (like for breakfast coffee and oatmeal, but water is already treated, so no need to get actual boil), I find that a half an Esbit cube will get two cups of water hot enough to be just right for me. To boil 4 cups of water, I've used 1.5 Esbit cubes and had good results. A wider squat pot may work better than a tall skinny pot in all of these scenarios. Your opinions may vary.
