A friend of mine just alerted me to this article. Looks like we might get a workable Giardia vaccine in the not too distant future:

Dec 24, 2012 at 6:11 pm #1938034I think a Giardia vaccine would make a big difference. While the majority of backcountry illness is not Giardia, I think it's likely the majority of serious (as in having to seek treatment) gastrointestinal illness contracted in the backcountry IS Giardia.
