Has anyone ever made an Esbit Stove out of a soda can? I want to build one that is cheap and above all, weighs less than 2oz.

Anyone got any info?

Took me less than five minutes to make out of a sierra mist can, weighs 0.2 ounce and is stable. I will try it out as soon as I have the chance to go get some esbit tabs…

Make two stoves in one. Make an alcohol stove out of a pepsi can or a smaller can, then flip it upside down and you have an esbit stove. You can also make an esbit stove out of wire mesh, the same wire often used as the stands forthe pepsi can stoves. Check out the esbit stove at aintgravity gear. My favorite esbit stove was found right here at this site made out of titanium.

You may want to look at Esbit Stove

and then go to the pdf file named Colin Ibbotson’s Esbit Stove design (PDF).

Thanks Roger, but that just looks to heavy for what I really need and am looking for.All I need is a super simple stove that weighs under an ounce and I don't even need it to be compatible with bigger pots because the only hot meals I ever take are homemade dehydrated meals in a ziploc that I just boil no more than 16 ounces of water.

No problems Evan. I am intending to use a Gram cracker from Trail designs as my preferred Esbit stove in the coming months.

If weight is at least as important as price, consider a Caldera Cone. I know you said you wanted to make a stove, but for around $40 you can have an extremely efficient AND very light setup.
32g Caldera Cone for SP 600
4g! Gram Cracker esbit system

That's 36g for stove, windsreen and pot stand. Add in 82g for SP600 (or mug of your choice) and foil lid, and another 56g for 4 Esbit tabs (~6 boils of 2 cups water), and you have a setup for a long weekend for 174g or about 6oz. The only drawback I have found to this system is how to pack the cone without adding bulk and/or weight.
I know this doesn't answer how to MYOG one, but just wanted to make sure you had considered this.
