    Dear hikers,

at the request of Jeremy Greene
and Thom Darrah, I show you my:

    MYOG TYVEKBIVY 02

    material:
    Tyvek: 45g/m² (1.3 oz./sq. yd.)
    Short zipper: 80cm (31in.) 19g (0,6 oz.)
    Dyneemacord: 1mm (uncoated)
    Minitanka

    facts:
    weight:
    bivy 152g (5.3 oz. )
    Cuben stuffsack 4g (0,15 oz.)

    measures:
    feet girth : 110cm (43,3 in.)
    shoulder girth: 170cm (68 in.)
    length: 215cm (84,6 in.)

This bivy is a very simple one, but it tooks me only
one day for the design, the cutting and sewing.

The cut is based on a pattern from Andres Jonsson.
THE swedish MYOG guy, with a lot of excellent myog projects.

    A big thanks to Sweden!!!!

I am not sure, whether the european Tyvek is comparable
to that in the states. It is lighter than Home Wrap and
resembles the material from the Driducks are made off,
    with a similar performance

    But, just take a look:

    And for the bigger picture:

As expected, after seeing your recently posted MYOG pack, you have done an excellent job. Your MYOG tyvek bivy is a step up, a couple steps up, from my own efforts.

This is an ideal supplement to a tarp or other floorless shelter. Sure would be nice to be able to purchase one of these. Great work!

Wow, that's nice. I'd like to either buy or make one of those too. Would you be willing to make the pattern available?

Thanks very much Peter, but it looks like Mateusz made some changes to the original Swedish pattern (which has a top-center zip), and I think I prefer Mateusz's updated design.

Mateusz – I sure don't have your sewing skills, but your bivy design looks simple enough that even I might be able to build one. That is, if I had a pattern…..

That looks like soft tyvek – the stuff they make coveralls out of. It's more breathable than Homewrap and better suited to bivies, probably.

    Nice work!

On a similar note, I was thinking of making a Tyvek bivy for my down sleeping bag. One concern I have in general is whether or not condensation builds up between the Tyvek and the sleeping bag. I would think that the heat generated by your body would escape the sleeping bag and eventually build up inside of the Tyvek covering.

Info about the Tyvek I found is at this thread.

I think that's right, it is softtyvek.

    Dear Dave,
    you've got a PM.

Wow. I'd love to build one of those. I may have to dig out my old sewing machine.

Especially with a pattern. How hard is it to find the soft tyvek?

Is the zipper lighter than velcro?

And has anyone ever made a bivy with the soft Tyvek Refleckta? Wonder if it might get you a few more degrees with a lighter bag?

Yeah Joe, wer're thinking along the same line here. These photos caused no small amount of excitement. I would buy one of these without even a blink if they were available. My wife has agreed to sew one up for me. Googling "tyvek fabric" brought up several fabric warehouses that sell type 14 which is the same used for the Sublite. The price on fabric has gone up across the board and type 14 and is now selling for $10 a yard at some of these on-line stores. I am shopping locally. If you pursue this and find a favorable price on type 14, please let me know. Thanks, John

Wow, $10/yd is alot. Try these links for type 14 tyvek selling for substantially less than that.

    Dear Joe,

the weight of this light zipper I have
used is similar to Velcro (mayby less).

In my opinion a zipper is more functional
and without the awful noise of Velcro.

The aluminium coated tyvek was also on my material
list but the weight of this coated tyvek is nearly
the twice as high (2,5 oz./sq. yd.), it isn’t so
soft and the breathability is lower and this could
    lead to serious condensation problems.

    Daer John,

Tyvek is also in Europe an expensive stuff,
maybe a little bit cheaper than in the states.

    Best regards

    Mateusz

    Hi Laufburshe
Nice work, very professional. After seeing your pack I suspect that a lot more than 2 members were intersted to see your bivy.
I like that close up because it makes it clear that you are using clothing type Tyvek (1422R ?), not that similar to the homewrap. Noted those many pin holes, should breathe well, and your brand, nice touch.
