Dennis.. They're what I'd call a modified spot. Most of the reflectors are textured (orange peel) surfaced and do throw a soft flood around the intense central spot. I have both the LD10 and the L0D. The tiny,single AAA, L0D is plenty of light for almost any hiking situation.
