So I'm looking into options for a tripod, but so far have only been able to find the very small, wrap-around-a-tree with velcro variety. I'd like to take my Sony a-100 DSLR (weighs 19 oz.) and use a real tripod with 3 legs for long exposure night shots. So I need something that can hold it still for a good long while. Anyone know of any good lightweight real tripods?

I get it–it supports 6 lbs….but is actually .8 lbs. Perfect! Now I just have to figure out how to afford it.

Did you have a chance to look at UltrapodII?

I am not sure that it will perfectly fit your demands, but it certainly worth to look at.

They also have a preproduction quick release head option for it. And this combination is working perfectly for me with my D40.

Hi Nate,

Don't lose hope. I watched ebay for a long while before I got mine (which is an earlier version of the same tripod). I can honestly say it's a tool among toys compared to what else is out there, and very nice to use.

The good thing about camera support is it won't ever become obsolete, so the investment is less painful than say, the latest FF dslr (a zesty $8k for the new Nikon).
