there is no such thing as a down allergy. you are allergic to the dirt and dander attached to the down of cheap pillows using cheap feathers and down and if you use one from Montbell or WM they wash the down as advertised "hypoallergenic".
or, just use an inflatable child's arm floatie cut down the seam for a pillow (cost? 50¢)

I bought a Montbell synthetic, because I was afraid I would be allergic to the down bag. I'll have to see if they'll swap out bags with me! :(

I was just looking for a cheap way to see if I'm allergic to down. I just called the outfitter I bought my bag from about trading it in on a down one. I already have a FlexAir pillow in my wish list for my next order though. :)

Alergies to down are very rare, I don't think you should worry.

If you are worried – Just borrow a friends down sleeping bag and sleep with it for a night in your home. You'll know.

I have the Cloudrest and I love it. I think it weighs around 4 oz if I remember correctly. I tried inflatable pillows and they just didn't work right. Your head ends up bouncing around all night. To me–it's worth the extra weight to have a pillow and a decent pad too.

roman, i am allergic to duck,chickens,etc. but have no problems with either my big agnes bag or my pillow. i have the cloudrest, but i use a flexair(2 chambered)pillow underneth it. i use a pillowcase(i took a old threadbear case and cut it down) and put the flexair under the cloudrest. i found just one or the other wasn't high enough, as i sleep on my side. i also have arthitis in my neck and would wake up in pain before i came up with this. it's worth the few extra ounces….

I just got back from exchanging my bag. I ended up going with the Montbell U.L. S.S. Down Hugger #2. It's rated for 25F and weighs 28 oz. I'm debating if I should exchange it for a #4 (35F and 21 oz) or #5 (40F and 18 oz), but I'm not sure that would be a good idea going into winter.
