following quote is from the BPL Review Article:
“However, there is some utility lost in what isn’t in these packs. These are frameless packs, depending on a “virtual frame” to create pack stiffness. A virtual frame can be created by putting a pad inside the pack, either rolled or flat against the back, and by compressing the load (or filling the pack). This makes a solid pack. However, the Fanatic Fringe packs do not have a top strap or any type of compression system to adjust for smaller loads. This makes it very difficult to achieve a virtual frame when the pack is under filled.”
need some help here. read the review of this fine pack. my question concerns the mention of a v-frame related to this pack. can anyone please explain to me the purpose of a v-frame in a beltless pack. is it ONLY to create a “solid pack” as the Review states? i also understand the function of the v-frame in a belted pack (i.e. load transfer). what i’m missing is the precise function of a v-frame in a beltless pack since a v-frame can’t transfer load to a hip-belt. is all that a v-frame is doing in a beltless pack is stabilizing the load by making it easier to compress the entire contents with a minimal number of compression straps (which are not present in this pack). if so, then what function would it perform in a beltless pack lacking compression straps? just some stabilization? ok. your turn please. i think i’ve conveyed how confused i am.
